After four days of competition, the 2010 Victorian School Futsal Championships ended with a dramatic extra time winner that saw St Monica's College claim the Senior Boys title in an epic encounter at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The game look poised for a penalty shoot out before St Monica’s snatched a late winner to see off Rowville Secondary College, 4-3, in the grand final. The win ensured Rowville didn’t go home with a clean sweep of titles in the boys secondary school age groups after impressive performances all round.
The Senior Girls' final was a repeat of last year’s affair with St Monica’s College going head-to-head with Haileybury. With both teams going into the final unbeaten, Haileybury were just too strong for their opponents and ran out 6-1 victors. A win for St Monica’s would have given them a clean sweep in the girls secondary school age groups following wins in the Junior and Intermediate age groups after beating Loyola and Haileybury respectively.
The Junior final was a close call with St Monica’s scoring a winner in the dying seconds to win 3-2, after being 2-0 down at half time with Georgia Alberti getting on the scoresheet.
The School Futsal Championships offer all Victorian Primary and Secondary Schools the chance to play against other school teams from all over the State, in a competitive yet fun atmosphere.
